Find Hickman County Civil Dockets

Start a Hickman County civil docket search by figuring out which court handled the case, since Circuit, Chancery, probate, and limited civil matters sit with different clerks and indexes. That choice shapes everything after it. The clerk of the right court holds the signed record, even when part of the docket opens online. A docket entry can name the parties, the filings, service, motions, hearing dates, and court orders. If a search comes up empty or you need the papers themselves, one call to the clerk, a trip to the counter, a mailed request, or a formal public-record request will usually get you there.

Hickman Civil Dockets Have Two Clerks

Records at the courthouse split between two offices. Circuit Court Clerk Dana Nicholson holds the Circuit civil records. Clerk and Master Loren Roberts keeps Chancery, probate, guardianship, and conservatorship matters. Both sit at 104 College Avenue in Centerville. Nicholson works in Suite 204. Roberts is in Suite 202. A request sent to the wrong counter can stall a search. That risk holds even when the party name and filing date are right.

The official Tennessee court profile for Clerk and Master Loren Roberts lists that office's contact details.

That profile gives the local Chancery and probate contact, which the public TnCIS office list does not break out as a separate Hickman entry. It is the direct route to the right counter.

Inside a Hickman County Civil Docket

Think of the docket as a chronology and an index, not a stand-in for every filed pleading or signed order. Public fields vary by court and access level. A scanned document may not attach to a basic public row.

The clearest statewide inventory of what clerks track comes from the official civil case cover sheet.

Hickman Civil Docket Chronology

Most civil actions open with a complaint, petition, or appeal. The clerk then assigns a docket number and case category. Service shows up next. That may be a summons, return, waiver, or similar notice to the responding party. An answer, motion, counterclaim, cross-claim, or default-related entry may follow. Discovery fights, motions to dismiss or compel, and summary-judgment work add entries and signed orders to the chronology.

Opening → Service → Response → Motions → Setting → Judgment → Post-judgment.

Later stages bring hearings and settings. A notice of hearing, status setting, non-jury trial, or jury trial can appear before the case resolves. Settlement or dismissal may fill the later entries. So may voluntary nonsuit, default, judgment, transfer, garnishment, writ, satisfaction, rehearing, or appeal. A missing answer alone does not prove a default judgment. A judgment amount and a current balance are not the same fact either. When the legal result matters, read the newest entry and get the signed order.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

Civil matters in Hickman County divide by subject and jurisdiction. No official source publishes a local dollar threshold between Circuit and General Sessions. So check the summons or ask a clerk. Never assume which court owns a claim. Circuit, Chancery, probate, General Sessions, municipal, and juvenile tracks can each carry distinct records and access rules.

The Tennessee court forms index sorts General Sessions civil, trial court, protection, mediation, parenting, and juvenile materials by legal track.

That official court forms index is what the page here reflects.

The spread of form groups shows why a civil issue should be routed by court and case type. One flat county docket would blur those lines.

Hickman Civil Docket Filing Context

The AOC fiscal year 2024-25 Circuit report counted 40 Hickman Circuit civil filings. Thirty-six were miscellaneous general civil. One was a contract or debt matter. One was a General Sessions or Juvenile appeal, one an order of protection, and one a real-estate filing count. Dispositions totaled 36. These figures leave out Chancery, probate, General Sessions, municipal, and juvenile matters in Hickman County.

The disposition table listed dismissals, two forms of settlement, uncontested or default matters, and a non-jury trial. They are reporting labels only, not interchangeable outcomes and not a summary of any named private case.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

A Hickman County civil docket entry can carry many labels. Motion setting, status date, pretrial conference, non-jury hearing, jury trial, or some other court date. Each one means a different kind of event. A scheduling order may also set several deadlines that are not hearings at all. When the fields appear, read the event label. Also note the judge, the date, the time, and the courtroom. Later entries matter too, since a reset or continuance can change an earlier setting.

The county's public events calendar is not a daily court calendar. To confirm a setting, rely on TnCIS, the newest docket entry, and the clerk responsible for that court. Nicholson's office handles Circuit settings; Roberts handles Chancery and probate settings. If a setting is unclear, the full Hickman County court dates workflow breaks it down.

An old notice is not reliable once a later order changes the setting. Court staff can tell you what the record says. Only the judge or court can grant a continuance.

Hickman Civil Docket Copy Choices

A docket entry reading judgment entered is just an index event. The signed judgment is the actual court document. When another court, agency, or clerk needs an official copy, ask what version they want. The choice is plain, certified, or exemplified. The Clerk and Master posts a fee schedule effective January 1, 2026. Those Chancery charges do not apply to Circuit or General Sessions work.

Chancery itemPublished charge
Plain or scanned copy$0.50 per page
Certification$5 plus page charges
Exemplification$15 plus page charges

Circuit civil documents start with a call to Nicholson. Ask for the current fee and delivery method. Chancery and probate go to Roberts at 931-729-2522. For General Sessions civil, the summons tells you which clerk to contact. Any request by mail, email, phone, online, or at the counter should name the court. Include the docket number, the document, and the date range too. Before ordering a large file, ask for a fee estimate and a rough response time.

Hickman Civil Docket Outcomes

Civil docket outcomes come in many forms. Settlement, default, dismissal, nonsuit, transfer, and trial disposition all mean different things. A voluntary nonsuit is simply the plaintiff withdrawing the case under the applicable rules. A default-related entry does not become a default judgment until the court actually enters judgment. Settlement without a hearing and a court-approved settlement are separate AOC reporting categories, and a dismissal entry must be read with its order to know the reason and the effect.

Disposition
The recorded outcome or closing treatment of a case.
Default judgment
A judgment entered after a required party fails to plead or defend.
Voluntary nonsuit
A plaintiff's withdrawal of a civil action under the governing procedure.
Garnishment
A post-judgment process that may create later docket events.
Appeal
Review by a higher court, often with a new number and separate docket.

Civil Docket Access Rules

Tennessee civil court records are presumed open to the public. That presumption is not absolute. Rule 34 allows inspection of court records unless a law, rule, or order creates an exception. Before a civil record is sealed, Tennessee Rule of Civil Procedure 1A demands a serious and substantial interest that outweighs openness, with no less restrictive means available. Confidential juvenile, adoption, protected domestic, medical, financial, or identifying information may be withheld or redacted.

Public access boundaries:

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 states the core court-record access rule.

Tennessee Rule of Civil Procedure 1A supplies the civil presumption of openness and sealing standard.

Tenn. Code Ann. sections 10-7-503 and 10-7-504 address custodian access and statutory confidentiality.

The rule opens records while honoring seals, redactions, and statutory limits. If part of a file is withheld, ask for the public portion. Also ask whether a redacted copy exists.
